Prayers during the time of elections

Voting is underway for the Lok Sabha elections

Starting April 19 to June 2, 2024, elections will be held in seven phases across India. The results of this General election will be declared on June 4th, 2024.

French philosopher Voltaire advised, "Be wise for your own sake." These lines are so relevant when there is a decision to make- a decision to elect our own future.

Every Indian citizen who is 18 years and older has the right to vote and should vote. As an individual, it is one of the ways that a person can have an impact on the future of the land they live on.

On many occasions, I am grateful that I live in a democratic country. I have faith that I am protected from war. We now have to grant our support to those who will stand up for us and protect us.

During this time, in addition to voting, it is our duty to pray for the peace of our homeland. As a Nichiren Buddhism practitioner, I base everything on prayers.

Be wise for your own sake. Be compassionate toward your fellow men. Build your happiness through the happiness of others. - Voltaire

My fellow Nichiren Buddhism practitioners, these are my prayers during and after the 2024 Lok Sabha elections:

  • I am putting forth strong prayers for the whole country, for all the citizens and all the leaders who are campaigning.

  • I pray for the strength, courage and wisdom of the leaders who are campaigning to win the elections.

  • I pray for the wisdom of all the citizens of my country who are going to vote and elect the next Government. May they vote with a fair mind and not be influenced by any misleading information and beliefs. I pray for their absolute happiness.

  • I pray for the safety and security of all the voters, leaders and the whole electoral system.

  • May there be peace during all the campaigns and elections.

  • I pray for a non-violent and smooth election process. I pray that the elections be fair and that the best-served Government comes into power.
